The Highland Park High School student council will host a Movie Night fundraiser filled with games and family fun from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the HPHS softball field.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the foundations honoring the six Park Cities girls who were lost in the devastating July 4 flood at Camp Mystic.
Activities will include a soccer challenge, Scooby Doo bounce house, two-person obstacle course, face-to-face rock climbing wall, popcorn, and face paint. A minimum $20 donation is required per family.
“This night is meant to be a night of childhood when everyone can come and celebrate and remember in a positive way the joy and youthfulness of the girls that we’ve lost,” said executive council vice president Cate Young.
Young hopes the event builds community as well as shows support and respect for the families of the young flood victims.
“We are strongest when we are spending time together and being joyful together and enjoying the privilege that it is to live here and be in each other’s company,” she explained.
The high school’s entire student council will be at the event, added junior class representative Tristan Sun. He said the evening will be an opportunity for high schoolers to connect with younger students.
Planning the Movie Night has been a group effort, the high schoolers said, and the student council is still finding the perfect family film. Dinner will not be provided at the event.
