Highland Park ISD is mourning a beloved former teacher, coach, and administrator of more than four decades.

Richard Bohac, who worked in the district as a history teacher, football coach and an assistant principal at Highland Park High School, then Highland Park Middle School, died June 5 at the age of 75, according to his obituary.

Bohac retired in 2020, and more than 100 cars drove by Highland Park Middle School to wish him a happy retirement then.

Last year, in 2025, he was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award from the Highland Park Education Foundation.

“Richard’s influence extended far beyond the classroom and athletic fields, leaving a lasting mark on the Highland Park community. His dedication to students and colleagues, combined with his genuine care for others, made him a respected and cherished member of the HPISD family whose impact will be felt for years to come,” an email sent to Highland Park ISD families read.

A visitation is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, June 18 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. June 19 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 6306 Kenwood Avenue in Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, according to Bohac’s obituary, memorial gifts may be made to the Highland Park Education Foundation or to The Dallas 24 Hour Club.
