A Highland Park High School volleyball game against Allen was canceled Tuesday night after reports of smoke amid construction work on campus.

Highland Park ISD shared in an email sent to parents that the school was evacuated as a precaution without incident.

The district said the building was determined to be safe for occupancy Tuesday night, but the game was canceled because of the late hour.

The high school was operating on a normal schedule Wednesday.

“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as we took appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and visitors,” the district’s email read.

Wednesday, HPISD Board President Maryjane Bonfield said there was no fire or electrical issue and the smoke smell appears to have come from a heater turned on by crews working on the roof.
