LUCAS — Highland Park stole the show from Mother Nature on Friday and picked up its first victory of the season.
The Scots rolled past Lovejoy 21-0 in a game stopped with 3:54 remaining in the first half due to inclement weather. Since it was a nondistrict contest, play will not resume, and the final score and statistics will count.
The start of the game was delayed more than two hours by an initial thunderstorm, followed by about 45 minutes of football before the skies opened up again.
The Scots (1-1) rolled up 328 yards of offense on just five possessions. Buck Randall was responsible for most of that production, throwing for 171 yards and running for another 93.
Randall connected with Cannon Bozman on a pair of touchdown passes after the duo had four scores during last week’s season-opening loss to Rockwall-Heath.
The first came on a 60-yard strike late in the first quarter, one play after a holding penalty nullified Matthew White’s long scamper to the end zone. Following a short punt, HP extended the margin to 14-0 on a White touchdown run.

The next drive covered 99 yards with a methodical balance of rushing and short passing, prior to a big-play touchdown with Randall hitting Bozman from 42 yards. Bozman finished with 124 yards on five catches.
The HP defense limited Lovejoy to just 31 total yards and forced the Leopards (1-1) to punt on all four drives. Lovejoy’s best opportunity came following an interception by Barrett Puckett near midfield on the opening HP possession.
The Scots, who still have not lost consecutive regular-season games in almost three decades, will return home next week to face neighborhood rival Jesuit Dallas.
