A week without a game can leave a team itching to play.

The Scots believed that was the case for them as they got ready for a District 7-5A Division I game at Joshua on Friday night, Oct. 17. Kickoff was set for 7 p.m.
Wide receiver Cannon Bozman looked to be on schedule to return to action after missing two games, against Tyler and Red Oak, following an injury against Pulaski Academy, and the offensive line could get center George Hunt back, as well.
They are key players for the Scots (5-1, 2-0) who were aiming to keep the stride that had them on a five-game winning streak before the off week.
“Cannon was the leading receiver in 5A before he was injured,” coach Randy Allen said. “He was having such a great year.”

The senior wideout, an all-state performer a year ago, had 25 catches for 597 yards – nearly 24 yards a pop – and nine touchdowns through what amounted to 12 quarters, since he went out in the second period of Game 4 and also considering that Game 2 against Lovejoy didn’t have a second half because of weather.
So in the equivalent of less than three games, he had almost 600 yards as quarterback Buck Randall’s primary target.
“There’s a good connection between Buck and Cannon,” Allen said. “Buck looks for him when he’s got a progression route.”
With Hunt’s nearing return to the offensive line, that unit could be at its most prepared for the second half of the season. Through the first six games, the Scots hadn’t had the same five starters in consecutive contests.
Sophomores Benton Weathersby, at right guard, and Luke Swaner, at center, played against Red Oak. Allen called their work “outstanding” in place of the starters.
Left guard Cooper Alt returned against Red Oak after missing two games in concussion protocol.
Right tackle Tripp Townsend, a senior, and left tackle Stuart Allday, a senior captain, manned their key positions without missing a game.
