The Highland Park girls raced to a fifth place finish in the Class 5A team standings at the state cross country meet on Friday in Round Rock.
Ryan Sontag paced the Lady Scots individually in 28th position, traversing the 5-kilometer course at Old Settlers Park in 18 minutes, 55 seconds. Finley Heckler was five seconds back in 32nd place.
Other competitors for HP included Paisley Bassett, Presley Pate, Maddie Heckler, Claire Deeken, and Anne Cooper.
Lovejoy was the team champion, while Eva Cragnolino of Austin Liberal Arts and Science Academy was the individual gold medalist.
In the boys race, HP senior Spencer Haag finished in 11th place in a time of 15:46. Austin Anderson’s Colby Huntress was the individual champion, and Grapevine took the team crown.
