St. Mark’s and Hockaday will each attempt to defend their titles at the SPC volleyball tournament this week in Houston.
After claiming the crown in two straight seasons and three of the last four, the Daisies are again the top seed in the girls 4A bracket, which gets underway on Thursday. Hockaday was unbeaten against conference foes during the regular season.
Meanwhile, the Lions are the second seed behind regular-season champion Fort Worth Country Day in the nine-team boys competition. St. Mark’s topped Bellaire Episcopal in a five-set thriller in last year’s championship match.
St. Mark’s, Hockaday, and Greenhill also are likely to have medal contenders in the boys and girls cross country races on Saturday. The weekend festivities also include a championship tournament for field hockey.
In football, Episcopal and Houston Kinkaid will meet for the 4A title, while Country Day and Arlington Oakridge will clash for the 3A crown.
