A third-quarter spurt enabled St. Mark’s to rally past Yavneh Academy 55-40 in a nondistrict boys basketball clash on Friday at Hicks Gymnasium.
The Lions (12-5) trailed by one point at the break before starting the second half with a 21-5 run to take control against the scrappy Bulldogs (4-7), who are the defending TAPPS 3A state champions.
Asher Collins led the comeback with a game-high 16 points for St. Mark’s, which held a distinct height advantage. Dawson Battie added 11 points as the Lions snapped a three-game skid.
St. Mark’s will head to the Beach Ball Classic tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, starting on Dec. 28. After dropping five straight games, Yavneh will be off until a Jan. 13 home game against Lakehill.
