Former Highland Park standout Chandler Morris led Virginia to 13-7 upset win over Missouri in the Gator Bowl on Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
It was the first bowl victory as a starting quarterback for Morris, who threw for 198 yards — giving him an even 3,000 passing yards for the season. The Cavaliers (11-3) rebounded from a loss to Duke in the ACC championship game that cost them a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Morris, 25, is in his sixth collegiate season, playing for his fourth team. He spent one campaign at Oklahoma, three at TCU, and one at North Texas before transferring to Virginia this year. He is awaiting an NCAA ruling to determine a potential seventh year of eligibility.
Morris was the starting quarterback at HP for two years, the first of which resulted in an undefeated 16-0 season — the best in school history — and a Class 5A Division I state championship.
In other college bowl action, former Parish Episcopal star Preston Stone tossed three touchdown passes as Northwestern rolled past Central Michigan 34-7 in the GameAbove Sports Bowl on Thursday in Detroit.
Stone, 24, completed 19 of 31 passes for 226 yards, giving him 2,400 passing yards in 13 starts this season for the Wildcats (7-6).
