FRISCO — Unleashing its full arsenal of playmakers, Frisco Lone Star had too much offensive firepower for Highland Park on Friday.

The Scots couldn’t keep up as the Rangers accumulated 738 yards of total offense in a 58-38 victory in the Region II final in the Class 5A Division I playoff bracket on Friday at The Star.

While unbeaten Lone Star avenged a loss to the Scots in the same postseason round a year ago, HP’s impressive season ended along with its 12-game winning streak.

The Rangers (14-0) scored on 10 of their first 11 possessions behind sophomore quarterback Trey Wright, who threw for 477 yards and three touchdowns. He added another 176 yards on 19 rushing attempts.

HP counterpart Buck Randall was almost able to match Wright’s production, as he tallied four scores through the air and one on the ground.

However, the occasional stops by the aggressive Lone Star defense, which included three interceptions, enabled the Rangers to rally from an early deficit and pull away late.

After the teams traded early field goals, Randall’s 15-yard touchdown strike to Cannon Bozman on third-and-long gave HP a 10-3 advantage late in the first quarter.

Wright engineered a pair of quick scoring drives in response, including a 39-yard connection with Zach Forbush to tie the game. Moments later, Karece Hoyt scored the first of his four short rushing touchdowns to give Lone Star its first lead.

The Scots (12-2) answered with an 80-yard drive capped by a 39-yard scoring toss from Randall to Matthew White to even the score at 17.

However, the Rangers scored 10 points in the final 1:06 before halftime, as a Bryant Robinson interception in HP territory set up another Hoyt score in the closing seconds of the first half. That gave Lone Star a 10-point cushion and forced the Scots to play catch-up for the rest of the night.

The HP defense was never able to get the stop it needed, as Wright continued his aerial assault with touchdown throws to Davian Groce and Logan Brown.

The Scots kept battling, and seemed to have an opening after a long kickoff return by Bozman in the third quarter led to his second touchdown catch, making the score 34-24.

HP recovered the ensuing onside kick, too, only for Lone Star to grab the momentum back with an interception on the next snap.

White led all HP receivers with eight catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns out of the backfield. Bozman tallied five grabs for 99 yards, as both shined in their final game for the Scots.

Wright’s dazzling display included completing 27 of 38 passes. Forbish caught seven of them for a game-high 183 yards, while Groce finished with eight receptions for 146 yards.

As the season concludes, HP’s milestones include double-digit wins for the 13th straight season, a winning record overall for the 38th consecutive campaign, and extending its state records for playoff appearances (67) and district championships (60).
