After an early close call, Highland Park earned another championship at the Bulldog Classic boys basketball tournament over the weekend in Burkburnett.
The Scots (9-5) have competed in the event almost every year for more than a decade and have won it multiple times. On Saturday, they held off defending Class 4A Division II state champion Kennedale 84-74 in the title game.
HP won all three of its pool-play games on Thursday and Friday to reach the final, including a 66-65 thriller over Lubbock-Cooper Liberty in the tournament opener. The Scots followed by cruising past Frisco Legacy and Wichita Falls Memorial.
HP will carry some solid momentum into the start of the District 12-5A schedule on on Dec. 19 at Carrollton Turner.
