A second-half surge enabled W.T. White to pull away from rival Hillcrest in the District 13-5A girls basketball opener for both teams on Friday.
The Longhorns (3-15, 1-0) opened the third quarter on a 12-0 run to break open a close game in the 36-25 victory. Micah Mowles scored 12 points as WTW snapped a five-game losing streak.
Victoria Hlavaty tallied a game-high 14 points for the Lady Panthers (6-12, 0-1), who led early but managed just one field goal in the third quarter and just nine points total after halftime.
Both squads will continue league play on Tuesday, when Hillcrest hosts Adamson and WTW travels to face South Oak Cliff.
