Highland Park’s powerlifting team had a busy finish to February as the Scots hosted a meet on the 25th after going on the road to Jesuit on the 19th.

HP found plenty of success across the two meets, including setting multiple personal records.

At the Scot Classic, HP had 22 lifters in action with eight athletes reaching the podium in their respective weight classes.

Leading the way with first-place finishes were James Flowers and Luke Swaner, while Nick Van Der Westhuizen and Trey Lander picked up silver medals. Following with bronze medals for HP were Alexander Diltz, Beckett Curtis, Patton Vargas and Benton Weathersby.

Among the 38 personal-bests set was a 1,325-pound performance from Flowers. That total featured a 530-pound squat which ranks in a tie for third all-time at HP in his weight class.

Flowers is currently tied for 12th in Class 5A Region 3.

Additional milestones included Vargas breaking 1,100 pounds and Lander, Swaner, and Curtis each eclipsing 1,000 pounds.

Flowers also earned a first-place finish at Jesuit, while Vargas and William Gunnerson took third.

As a team, HP set 20 personal records, including Flowers producing the second-best bench press in program history for his weight.

Also in action for the Scots were Luke Hubbard, Cotton Patterson, Gavin Thornfield, Vargas, Harrison Shaw, Primo Pinson, Swaner and Colton Williams.
