Five Highland Park athletes put pen to paper Wednesday, finalizing their collegiate plans on National Signing Day.

HP’s recent signees join a class of nine athletes who previously signed in February.

Recent signees for the Scots included tennis player Pierce Collard (Rhodes College), boys soccer players Carter Reese (University of New Brunswick) and Preston Telfer (Lyon College), boys basketball player Canon Wyatt (California Polytechnic State University), and track and field athlete Presley Pate (Pepperdine University).

Collard is having a strong senior season on the court. He and teammate Prestcott Barnell have claimed the District 12-5A title in boys doubles. At regionals, the duo cruised to a win in the first round but were eliminated in the second round.

Reese and Telfer followed up last year’s unbeaten postseason run on the pitch with a second-place finish in 12-5A before loss in the bi-district round of the playoffs to eventual regional finalist Frisco Liberty.

Both Reese and Telfer were named to the 12-5A all-district team for their performances.

Wyatt was also an all-district performer on the hardwood, earning first-team honors after leading the Scots in scoring (17.6 points per game) and to a playoff berth.

Rounding out the signees was Pate, who is currently still completing her senior campaign in track and field, including qualifying for area in the 800-meter run.
