The calendar has turned to April, the District 7-6A season is halfway complete, and Jesuit Dallas still has a zero in the loss column.
The Rangers remained perfect in 7-6A action Tuesday, improving to 7-0 and 16-6-2 overall with a 7-3 win over Irving MacArthur.
Jesuit continued its recent trend of starting strong, striking for four runs in the top of the first inning and tacking on another pair in the second before leading 7-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh when MacArthur finally broke through on the scoreboard.
Jacob Martinez picked up the win on the mound, nearly firing a complete game before being lifted with two outs remaining in the seventh. Martinez’s final line included 10 strikeouts and three earned runs on five hits.
Offensively, nine different Rangers recorded hits, led by Nate Iannariello, who went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Cole Johnson and Roman Derichsweiler chipped in two hits apiece, while James Jorgensen, Charlie Wilson, and Davis Montgomery each knocked in runs.
On Friday, Jesuit completed a sweep of its series against Lake Highlands with a 14-1 rout in five innings.
Jorgensen improved to 3-0 on the bump, fanning 12 in the complete game while allowing one earned run.
Wilson powered the offense with a pair of round-trippers, including a two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning before breaking the game open with a grand slam in the fifth to give the Rangers a 9-0 lead.
Derichsweiler had another big game with three hits and four RBIs, while Iannariello doubled and drove in two.
Jesuit, now ranked No. 5 in the area in 6A by the Dallas Morning News, will look to stay hot at 7 p.m. tonight at home against MacArthur.
