a postal worker noticed a change of address that looked suspicious in the 3500 block of Drexel Drive and after checking with the homeowners concluded that it was fraudulent and the "new address" was to an abandoned house.

Dating back to November 2018, HPDPS investigators have determined that at least five residential burglaries are connected in Highland Park.

Crime Reports June 24 – 30
Reported at 11:46 a.m. June 28: An identity thief on June 20 used a MasterCard belonging to a woman who lives in the 4600 block of Lorraine Avenue to purchase a $1,499 musical instrument online from a store called ZZounds. The crooked musician picked up the package on June 25 from a FedEx store on Preston Road.

Crime Reports June 10 – 17
The padlock on a truck, parked on June 10 at the 4700 block of Cowper Avenue, couldn't keep a burglar out between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m.. Several items were stolen: a Toro lawnmower ($1,700), a Stihl-brand edger ($750), a Stihl-brand weed eater ($750), and a Stihl-brand trimmer ($850). Adding insult to injury? The padlock was also taken.

It was quite an evening at the CVS at Mockingbird Lane and Central Expressway. At 1:59 a.m. May 29, a black 2002 Ford F250 crashed through the front door of the store and the would-be thief attempted to steal the ATM. The damage to the front door totaled around $10,000.

A $100 Broker Hyde wallet that likely fell onto the driveway from its owner's pocket when he got home in the the 3600 block of Normandy Avenue at 6:30 p.m. May 21 was discovered missing at 6:30 a.m. the next day.
Truck Lifted Out of Turtle Creek; No Injuries Reported
A vehicle that was swept into Turtle Creek in Highland Park on Saturday during a thunderstorm was removed via crane on Monday around noon, according to officials.

Crime Reports: March 11 – 17
Good on this employee from Bank of America on Hillcrest Avenue: A customer attempted to open a checking account on March 12, but the employee immediately recognized the customer's information - his drivers license and a debit card - as forged. The employee i called the police, and the customer fled the bank on foot. Police tracked him down, eventually, and took him into custody.

Highland Park Department of Safety (HPDPS) learned Wednesday of a phone scam where the caller posed as a Highland Park police officer and demanded payment on a warrant for failing to appear for jury duty.

A delivery truck got entangled in overhead telephone wires, which were hanging lower than normal.

A 57-year-old Highland Park woman just can’t escape the ghosts of her old license plates. At 3 p.m. on Jan. 14, she reported that plates stolen off of her vehicle back in October had been recently flagged by police in a different jurisdiction for violating traffic laws.

After crashing her Chevrolet Sonic at the intersection of Armstrong Parkway and Douglas Avenue, a 38-year-old Dallas woman abandoned the vehicle and took off by foot. Why? She had several alcoholic drinks during pizza with friends, she told police around 9:28 p.m.
