6 Candidates, But Only 5 Seats

|

Because early voting begins Monday, this week’s edition of Park Cities People includes a story about the contested Town Council election, a rarity in Highland Park. Can anyone remember the last time the town had one of those? (You’ll find the answer in your newspaper.)

UPDATE: I just realized that you’ll also find a headline in your newspaper that says “Six Vie For 5 Seats on HP Council,” even though the story lists only five candidates. I guess, technically, the print headline is correct, because Mayor Bill Seay Jr. is running for re-election unopposed, and the mayor does sit on the council. But it still feels like a big, embarrassing mistake.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: OK, the real mistake was that incumbent Councilman Larry Nixon was left off the list of candidates. So that is a big mistake. And if you count Seay, maybe the headline should have read “Seven Vie Six Seats on HP Council.” And maybe I should go back to bed.
