I was in two spelling bees as a kid, and I’ll never forget the words I was eliminated by: “nepotism” and “exchequer.” But I don’t recall ever participating in a geography bee.
Well, Highland Park Middle School student Andrew Helmbrecht has not only participated in geography bees, he’s excelled in them. Tomorrow, he’ll compete for the state championship. Please join me in wishing him luck as he no doubt embarks on a globe-and-atlas-intensive evening.
