Don’t Play Poker With Mayor Dick Davis

|

At Thursday morning’s Park Cities Power Breakfast — my name for the joint meeting of the Highland Park ISD Board of Trustees, the University Park City Council, and the Highland Park Town Council — University Park Mayor Dick Davis demonstrated that he has a great poker face.

After detailing developments regarding the George W. Bush Presidential Center, the University Park Public Library, and the new parking district around SMU, Davis began to tell his counterparts from HP and the school district about “a major issue” facing his city. Everyone leaned in, earnestly interested in what this might be.

Without cracking a smile, Davis revealed that a University Park resident will come before the City Council on Tuesday, seeking to overturn the ordinance that prevents her from keeping chickens in her backyard.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do; I have some idea,” Davis said, stone-faced. “If you have any input, you let me know.”
