Thanks to heavy winds yesterday, Highland Park postponed a round of pesticides scheduled in response to West Nile Virus in the area. And by “West Nile Virus in the area,” we mean a mosquito sample — nothing that has infected people.
In any case, the spraying didn’t happen last night. It’s slated for tonight and this morning instead, in the northeastern section of town, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
University Park regularly sprays as a preventative measure, as Bradford Pearson reports in this week’s paper. Dodging mosquito bites in general is the best way to avoid West Nile, so town officials suggest you get rid of stagnant water wherever possible. Think bird baths, broken fountains, and so on.
Update: The sprays will be on public streets from Mockingbird Avenue to Harvard Lane (north to south) and Airline Road to St. Johns Drive (east to west).
