Rise and Shine, Park Cities (7-7-11)

See "torch drawings" like these at Talley Dunn Gallery.

Short week, huh? Here a few family-ready events to keep on your weekend radar:

1. The Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game is right around the corner again on Saturday, and as always, it includes some local sports elite (Cuban and Modano among them). The fun starts at 6 p.m.

2. Talley Dunn Gallery, nee Dunn and Brown Contemporary, will launch an exhibition Saturday for Fort Worth artist Helen Altman — “a site-specific installation,” says a press release, “of 90 of Altman’s extraordinary torch drawings of animals.” Yep; She uses fire on paper to create images like the ones above.

3. First Unitarian Church of Dallas is heading to Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre on Sunday evening for a Shakespeare Dallas production of As You Like It, set during the Spanish Civil War. Want in? RSVP to [email protected].
