HP Easily Passes Test in Playoff Opener

Anxious to put last year’s first-round boys soccer playoff defeat in the rearview mirror, Highland Park advanced in convincing fashion on Friday.

The Scots shut out Corsicana 3-0 in a Class 5A Region II bi-district game at Highlander Stadium. With their seventh straight win overall, the Scots (17-2-3) advance to meet Jacksonville, which scored a 2-0 victory over Hallsville in its first-round contest. That game will be Monday or Tuesday at a time and site to be determined.

In girls action, HP rolled to an 8-1 win over Cleburne in a bi-district game on Friday in Grand Prairie to remain unbeaten this season.

Kylie Bell scored three times to lead the HP onslaught. Other goal scorers included Hattie Speicher, Parker Hart, Elise Borders, Morgan Williams, and Atty Meyer.

Next up, the Lady Scots (22-0-2) will meet Longview Pine Tree, which topped Lufkin 4-2 to advance. Details for that contest have yet to be announced.
