Cleburne Rallies Past Scots in Playoffs

Highland Park’s offensive struggles contributed to an early exit from the Class 5A Region II baseball playoffs on Saturday.

The Scots fell 4-1 to Cleburne in the third and deciding game of a bi-district series in Grand Prairie. HP scored just four runs in the three games combined.

The Scots (20-11) won the series opener 2-0 on Thursday at Scotland Yard before the Yellow Jackets (26-7) answered with a 4-1 victory on Friday in Cleburne.

The season finale marked the eighth time since April 1 that HP scored two or fewer runs in a game. Injuries left the Scots shorthanded for much of that span, but they still managed a third-place finish in District 13-5A.

However, HP ultimately was eliminated in the first round of postseason play for the first time since 2013. A year ago, the Scots won a three-game bi-district series against Midlothian before falling to Marshall in three.
