Galleria Dallas, Broadway Dallas Partner On ‘Give A Kid A Seat’ Initiative

Galleria Dallas is partnering with Broadway Dallas, formerly known as Dallas Summer Musicals, to ask North Texas to “give a kid a seat” via an installation at the shopping center.

The installation, located on the Gallery Wall on Level 1 across from Sephora, will be supported by a full month of activities celebrating Broadway Dallas.

From its primary home at the historic Music Hall at Fair Park, Broadway Dallas presents the best of Broadway year-round to more than 300,000 audience members and serves more than 40,000 people by spreading the spirit of Broadway to the community through multi-generational education and community outreach initiatives, including Give A Kid A Seat, which will be celebrated all month at Galleria Dallas.

Each year, Broadway Dallas raises funds through its Give A Kid A Seat campaign to provide free Broadway show tickets to thousands of students from underserved neighborhoods. The highlight of the year is a dedicated performance for Dallas ISD students who fill the Music Hall at Fair Park and participate in eight sessions of STEAM-based curriculum taught by Broadway Dallas teaching artists. In 2021 the program was tied to the blockbuster Hamilton.  2022 program details will be announced soon.

The gallery wall will share the history of Broadway Dallas’ give a kid a seat program and will invite donors to share the joy of live theater via a QR code that supports a donation platform. Each $100 raised will buy a seat for a youth to attend the program.

Events at the Gallery Wall will kick off at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, when the Broadway Dallas team hosts an unveiling ceremony at the wall. Additional activities include:

·       A Broadway-themed skate night at Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6

·       Performances from Broadway Dallas’ High School Musical Theatre Awards students on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 11:30 a.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. in front of the wall.

·       A teaching artists workshop centered around an upcoming Broadway Dallas presentation on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. in front of the wall.

“Kids deserve a future that they view as limitless. During these turbulent times, young people are balancing the demands of growing up with the fallout from COVID and contentious debates surrounding racial inequalities, climate change, gun violence and immigration,” said Ken Novice, Broadway Dallas president and CEO. “This means we need performing arts more than ever because theater can connect different cultures, show new viewpoints, illuminate imaginations, and provide an outlet to experience and process complex emotions. Give A Kid A Seat is your opportunity to give a kid an adventure, a new perspective, and a place to dream.”

The Broadway Dallas Gallery Wall will remain up through Wednesday, Aug. 31.
