Scots Sprint to Victory in Season Opener

Highland Park got the boys track and field season off to a fast start by winning the team title at the North Garland Raider Relays on Feb. 17.

Individually, Luke Herring won the 110 hurdles and long jump, while Kyle Carlson claimed gold in the 300 hurdles. John Rutledge was first in the 100 in addition to anchoring victorious 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams alongside Jay Cox, Beau Lilly, and Ben Croasdale.

Meanwhile, the HP girls finished fourth as a team at the season-opening McKinney Boyd Relays on Feb. 19. The Lady Scots won the 4×800 relay with the quartet of Kayla Dickerson, Ellie Preston, Charlotte Hudson, and Grace Hathaway. HP’s only individual medalist was Hattie Speicher, who placed second in the long jump.

Next up, the boys will compete at the Prosper Relays on March 4, and the girls will travel to the Coppell Relays the following day.
