After a successful showing at the Northwest ISD Classic volleyball tournament over the weekend, Highland Park fell in four sets against Rockwall in its home opener on Tuesday.

The Lady Scots (13-6) defeated both defending Class 6A state champion Conroe Grand Oaks and perennial power Southlake Carroll in tournament play before dropping the championship match against unbeaten Byron Nelson.

That defeat snapped an eight-match winning streak for HP. Still, the Lady Scots placed four players on the all-tournament team — Brooklyn Bailey, Sarah Floyd, Anna Lee, and Gigi Whann. All tournament matches were abbreviated to best-of-three sets.

Also over the weekend, HP head coach Michael Dearman reached the 900-win milestone for his career. He has been coaching the Lady Scots for more than two decades.

After returning home on Tuesday and losing to the Yellowjackets, they will face more elite competition at the Volleypalooza tournament beginning Thursday in Round Rock. HP will meet Greenwich (Conn.) Country Day, McAllen, and San Antonio Harlan in pool play. The next home match for the Lady Scots will be Sept. 2 against Lake Highlands.
