Josh Bell achieved a rare feat for the Washington Nationals on Monday. It wasn’t just the two home runs he hit, but how he hit them.
The switch hitter and former Jesuit Dallas standout became just the second player in franchise history to homer from both sides of the plate during a 15-7 win over the Miami Marlins.
Bell’s pair of two-run blasts came in back-to-back innings — a right-handed dinger in the sixth inning, followed by a left-handed shot in the seventh. He totaled four hits and drove in six runs in the game.
The 33-year-old first baseman has bounced around between various organizations over the past several seasons since starting his lone All-Star appearance with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019.
Bell has shown remarkable durability during his 10-year Major League Baseball career, playing in almost 1,300 games with 190 home runs, including 19 this year. He graduated from Jesuit in 2011.
