MESQUITE – Coaches learn to look for positives. They teach their players to do the same.
W.T. White’s Bryson Lewis found examples even in a 52-0 loss to West Mesquite at Hanby Stadium on Friday night.
“We’re a young team. We’re learning,” the first-year coach of the Longhorns said. “We’re going to get better.”
The Longhorns already had shown many signs of that in a 3-1 start. Even after the lopsided defeated, they have a winning record and are 2-1 in District 6-5A with victories over Carrollton Turner and Bryan Adams.
Junior wide receiver Lovell Neal caught six passes for 60 yards for WTW, and sophomore Zane Fogel had a 15-yard catch – both accounting for some of the positives that will be identified in game review.
What the Longhorns won’t like seeing is giving up explosive plays, which got the Wranglers (4-1, 3-0) off to a 28-0 halftime lead that became 35-0 out of the break when Devin Blackerby returned the opening kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown.

There were also West Mesquite touchdowns of 44 yards and 36 yards.
