Friends of UP Public Library Present Check to City Council

The Friends of the University Park Public Library presented a check for $115, 833.90 at the Nov. 4 University Park city council meeting.

The Friends of the University Park Public Library presented a check for $115,833.90 to the University Park city council at its Nov. 4 meeting.

Friends President Katharine Friguletto reviewed the nonprofit’s 2025 fiscal year donations, including $75,333.90 from the Friends’ fundraising efforts, $25,500 from a La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas Grant, and $15,000 from a Conant Family Foundation grant.

Friguletto also highlighted the success of the Friends’ “three-legged mission” to provide funding and trained volunteers for the library, and quality programming for the community.

In 2025, more than half of the nonprofit’s Meet Me At The Library programs were at maximum capacity. The Friends’ have more community-driven plans in store for 2026, including an Elliot Engel fundraiser on Dec. 11 and the launching of a teen board in 2026 to capture teen input, volunteerism, and engagement.

Also during the meeting the University Park city council:

  • Proclaimed Nov. 7, 2025, as Arbor Day in University Park, supporting the conservation and beautification of its parks and public properties.
  • Proclaimed Nov. 15, 2025, Half Shells Day in University Park, celebrating three decades of the Half Shells restaurant, which opened in 1995.
