Santa Claus came to the Town of Highland Park during its annual tree lighting on Dec. 4, and plenty of holiday magic arrived with him.
This year’s celebration at the Landmark Pecan Tree in the 4200 block of Armstrong Parkway included tasty treats, hot chocolate, activities, a mini railroad, and real reindeer.
Mayor Will Beecherl spoke about the history of the town’s event before Santa, who made his entrance in a fire truck, joined him onstage to lead the countdown to the tree lighting.
Snow started falling on spectators as the tree was lit thanks to a mix of winter magic and machinery.
The snow was greeted by cries of delight from children, who stuck out their tongues to taste it and played games of tag as it fell.
