The Highland Belles drill team has selected its lieutenants for the 2026-27 season following a demanding try-out process before a panel of experienced judges.
The new lieutenants are Sadie Baker, Natalie Anne Brewer, McKennaKate Houghton, Louisa LaGere, and Solene Perhirin.
The Belle lieutenants are team leaders both on and off the field. Each is assigned one-fifth of the team, who they work with in daily practices and lead in additional weekend rehearsals. The lieutenants serve as the liaison between directors and the line, communicating updates and offering individualized support.
The Belles’ lieutenant strut was choreographed by the group’s founding director, Cathy Wheat. It is an adaptation of the traditional officer entrance performed by the Kilgore College Rangerettes. The batons carried in the strut are each inscribed with the initials of every young woman who has had the honor of holding them since 1983, according to the Belles website.
