The community is invited to attend the sign dedication and unveiling of The Molly Mullens Mile on Molly’s birthday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. in Curtis Park.

The dedication honors Molly’s memory, the lives she continues to touch, and the lives she will help protect in the future.

Signage commemorating The Molly Mullens Mile will be placed on the stretch of U.S. Highway 287 where 9-year-old Molly lost her life in 2024 after the driver of a minivan lost control, crossed a grassy median and cable barrier, and collided with her family’s vehicle head-on.

The Mullens later learned that the barrier on that stretch of Highway 287 was below road level, and that between 2020 and 2024 there had been 78 crossover collisions in the same spot, including more than a half-dozen fatalities.

They worked with State Rep. Morgan Meyer and the Texas Department of Transportation to replace the cable barrier with concrete. On Sept. 1, the stretch of road where the family’s collision occurred was designated The Molly Mullens Mile thanks to the passage of House Bill 2457, which was co-sponsored by Rep. Meyer.

The Mullens are now working to identify additional accident hot spots throughout the country and to help ensure improvements are made to prevent collisions.

“I feel this true calling to make change happen,” Molly’s mother, Marissa, said. “I think sometimes it’s unfortunate that it has to be something as tragic as losing Molly to see this change happen, but I also know that I don’t want someone else to have to endure the loss that we did.”
