Armstrong Elementary added a pinch of learning to the witches’ brew of Halloween fun with its annual book character parade.
Kindergartners dressed as everything from tigers and baseball players to princesses and superheroes for the event in the school’s cafeteria on Oct. 31. They exchanged high-fives with onlooking parents while holding the books that inspired their costumes.
Choices ranged from Halloween favorite Creepy Carrots to lighter fare, such as Pinkalicious and stories about the adventures of Angelina Ballerina.
The parade is a tradition at Armstrong Elementary, explained principal Betsy Cummins, and one that brings an educational element to the day for some of the school’s youngest students.
“I hope they understand the characters and are able to portray them as best they can in costume,” she said. “And that they learn the love of reading.”
