SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: DESTRUCTIVE DEVIANT

Reported at 10:11 a.m. on Feb. 16: A crafty criminal stole trowels, baseboards, and pieces of trim from a construction site in the 4400 block of Arcady Avenue.

UNIVERSITY PARK

16 Monday

Reported at 8 a.m.: A burglary of a home at an undisclosed location.

Reported at 9:32 a.m.: An auto thief stole a vehicle on Hanover Street.

17 Tuesday

Reported at 6:54 a.m.: A tool thief stole from a garage on Milton Avenue.

Reported at 11:48 a.m.: A home in the 3700 block of Villanova Drive was burglarized between Feb. 9 and Feb. 17.

18 Wednesday

Reported at 8:13 a.m.: A sneaky thief stole something from a vehicle on Amherst Avenue.

Reported at 10 a.m.: An inept thief tried to steal a phone and bicycle at Hyer Elementary on Caruth Boulevard, but the victim chased the thief and retrieved both items.

Reported at 9:33 a.m.: A possible bomb threat at Highland Park High School on Emerson Avenue was left by voicemail. The threat was determined to not be credible. Click HERE to read more about this report.

Reported at 1:45 p.m.: A former co-worker was harassing the family of a resident of Bryn Mawr Drive.

Reported at 4:22 p.m.: Burglary of a vehicle in The Plaza at Preston Center.

Reported at 4:58 p.m.: A thief stole property worth between $2,500 and $30,000 at a restaurant in Snider Plaza.

Reported at 8:20 a.m.: Harassment on Hillcrest Avenue.

Reported at 10:31 a.m.: A bag bandit stole a purse from a vehicle on Villanova Drive.

Reported at 11:45 a.m.: Harassment via text messages on Hyer Avenue.

Reported at 1:45 p.m.: A thief-in-the-night stole paint spray equipment from a house under major renovation on Haynie Avenue.

Reported at 11:49 a.m.: A theft-in-progress at CVS on Preston Road.

HIGHLAND PARK

16 Monday

A utility truck and trailer swiped the passenger side of a Honda SUV at about 7:35 a.m. near the intersection of Armstrong Parkway and Preston Road.

Reported at 10:43 a.m.: A greedy thief fraudulently charged the bank account of a resident of the 4300 block of Belclaire Avenue for three separate $135.31 transactions with a company that appeared to be a custom knife builder.

A pedaling pilferer stole a Trek bicycle from an open garage in the 4800 block of Auburndale Avenue before 5:41 p.m.

17 Tuesday

Reported at 11:26 a.m.: A thief used the American Airlines AAdvantage reward points of a resident of the 4600 block of Livingston Avenue to claim two iPhones.

A 43-year-old man was arrested for mail theft at about 2 p.m. in the 5500 block of Fairfield Avenue.

Reported at 2:15 p.m.: Thieves with expensive tastes racked up almost $200,000 in fraudulent charges on the credit card of a Highland Park resident during a shopping spree at Christian Dior, NorthPark Center, and Highland Park Village.

Reported at 3:01 p.m.: A Dallas resident discovered that her laptop was missing from her BMW when she left her apartment for work in the morning. Police suspected that it might have been stolen the previous day while the car was parked in the Whole Foods lot in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive.

19 Thursday

Reported at 12:36 p.m.: A criminal cruiser stole a Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 from the rear driveway of a home in the 3400 block of Harvard Avenue between Feb. 9 and Feb. 19 while the car’s owner was out of town. 

A 64-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated at about 5:49 p.m. in the 3500 block of Armstrong Avenue.

A 27-year-old was arrested for going the wrong way on a bicycle, not having bicycle lamps, possession of a controlled substance, and fraudulent use of identifying information at about 10:04 p.m. on Feb. 20 in the 4500 block of Belfort Place.
