Construction is close to complete after about a year of work along the Miracle Mile, but another project will soon have some traffic impacts in the area.

The final phase of the Miracle Mile project, which involves paving parking spaces and pouring sidewalks in the south side parking lot of the 4300 block of Lovers Lane, is slated to be finished by May 11, weather permitting.

Atmos Energy is expected to begin the work of installing a new gas main under the Dallas North Tollway on May 4. That project will require periodic closure of the Lovers Lane on-and off-ramps of the tollway. The Atmos project is expected to take about four to six weeks and won’t impact parking in University Park.

“While this is not a City project, work will impact a portion of University Park property along Lovers Lane,” a notice from the city of University Park about the Atmos project read. “The City previously coordinated with Atmos in an attempt to align this project with the Miracle Mile Improvements work at the Tollway. However, Atmos was unable to match that timeline and the City moved forward with the Miracle Mile project as originally scheduled.”

The gas main project was approved by the city of Dallas and the North Texas Tollway Authority.

Over the past year, the city of University Park has been working block by block along the Miracle Mile to repave the roadway and replace utilities under it.

The $11.6 million cost of the Miracle Mile project was shared by University Park, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and Dallas County. After construction wraps up, landscape installation will begin.
