Beating the heat this summer doesn’t have to mean slowing down. At indoor camps across Dallas, kids can stay cool, make friends, and discover new interests, all while creating memories that last long after temperatures drop.

Creativity takes center stage at the Dallas Museum of Art’s MAKE Summer Art Camps. With 32 half-day camps for kids ages 4 to 12 in June and July, families can choose morning, afternoon, or even full-day options.

Campers explore real artwork in the museum’s galleries before heading into the studio to create their own pieces. With small group sizes and a focus on imagination, kids aren’t just looking at art, they’re experiencing it.

“Our philosophy is that time in an art museum should spark curiosity, foster joy, and give children the opportunity to make choices,” explained Leah Hanson, the museum’s director of family, youth, and school programs. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously and have fun creating connections between what kids are interested in and works of art from around the world.”

For a well-rounded experience, the YMCA provides indoor-focused summer camps at locations throughout Dallas. These camps blend fun and learning with activities such as STEM projects, arts and crafts, group games, and character development. While there are occasional outdoor moments and field trips, most of the day is spent inside.

“Working at a YMCA indoor summer day camp means creating a space where kids can laugh, learn, and stay cool, all while still having the time of their lives,” YMCA staff member De’Armanoryea L. Hall explained. “From engaging activities inside to exciting field trips and weekly swim days, every moment is an opportunity to make memories. The best part? Knowing that what we do truly matters. Making an impact in a child’s life is what makes this work so exciting.”

The YMCA also offers financial assistance, helping to ensure every child has access to a safe and enriching summer.

Children who prefer high-energy fun will appreciate Cross Cheer indoor camps, which are packed with movement and excitement. Designed for girls ages 3 to 12, these programs teach cheer basics, including jumps, chants, and dance routines, in a supportive, upbeat environment. Beyond the routines, campers enjoy crafts, games, and music in cool indoor spaces in multiple locations across Dallas and Fort Worth.
