July is the busiest travel month of the year, especially for Texans. It’s no mystery why: It’s hot. Uncomfortably and offensively hot.

Fortunately, Eataly Dallas is hosting an event to help us escape the heat. On Sunday, July 12, the Italian food mecca will host Gelato Festa, a celebration of Italian flavors and one of Italy’s greatest creations: gelato.

Gelato Festa is a tasting event featuring more than 15 gelato stations positioned throughout Eataly Dallas where guests can taste unique gelato flavors such as Prosciutto di Parma with Melon and Caprese, as well as traditional flavors such as vanilla and chocolate.

If you’re wondering the difference between ice cream and gelato, I can help. Gelato has a lower milk fat content than ice cream, 4 to 9% versus ice cream’s 14 to 25% milk fat content. Also, gelato is churned more slowly than ice cream, which allows less air into the product making gelato more dense than ice cream. I’m not saying it’s health food, but I am saying you can eat more gelato than ice cream for the same calorie count.

Gelato Festa is a ticketed event, and you save by buying coupons in advance. Just like the State Fair, you buy your tasting coupons up front and spend them at gelato stations. Each tasting requires at least one coupon, though premium and alcohol-infused flavors cost two coupons.

Online purchase options are simple. The starter pack of eight coupons is $15, the All-Access pass of 24 coupons, which grants access to every gelato station and drinks, is $30.

On-site coupon prices are $20 for eight coupons and $40 for the All-Access pass.

The event will be held at Eataly Dallas 2130 NorthPark Center in Dallas from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12. Click here for more information and to buy coupons.

I will be there so please say hi if you see me.
