An elegant, all-day café quietly opened in April at 6009 Berkshire Lane in Preston Center in the space formerly occupied by Southpaw’s Grill. Cavero serves premium beverages, breakfast and lunch wraps, salads, smoothies, and signature desserts made with Cavero’s homemade soft serve ice cream.
The elevated décor boasts green velvet chairs with marble tables and a cozy bench with a table of coffee-themed books perched nearby. The vibe is friendly and serene.
For breakfast, Cavero serves a wide variety of coffee drinks, smoothies, and three kinds of wraps. Coffee drinks include a heavenly Cavero Honey Latte and the best-selling Turkish coffee. Non-caffeinated beverage options are light refreshers in summery flavors.
Cavero’s Caesar wrap and Veggie Hummus are standout menu items, as is the Mediterranean salad. It’s easy to find a healthy, protein-forward meal here.
The most exciting menu items contain Cavero’s house-made vanilla soft serve ice cream, made from owner Yazan Mustafa’s own recipe. Soft serve ice cream is making a big comeback and Cavero’s is the best I’ve tasted in Dallas.
The ice cream can be ordered plain or with a topping, but the most unique way to enjoy it is in a Chimney, a Hungarian pastry baked in the shape of a chimney. Cavero makes the pastry in house and wraps it in molds lined up on the wall before baking it in a tiny oven on the prep counter. The Chimneys can be rolled in the traditional method of cinnamon and sugar and dressed with a variety of syrups, including Nutella which is wildly delicious.
Mustafa has always wanted his own place. A native of Jordan, he spent several years learning the food and beverage ropes of Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts while attending university. He moved to North Texas 10 years ago to work with Sonic, gaining experience in franchise restaurant operations and management.
Mustafa’s vision for an upscale, modern coffee shop evolved into a more rounded café when he decided to add breakfast, lunch, and dessert options. The tiny kitchen and lack of frozen food storage mean menu items are simple, fresh, and perfect for a quick sit-down meal or grab and go.
With the massive construction efforts in the Berkshire/Douglas area of Preston Center disrupting parking and commerce, Cavero is at a bit of a disadvantage. I hope you make a point to visit, meet Yazan and his team, and enjoy the lovely ambience and thoughtful items on the menu.
