With just three returning starters from 2025, HP’s defense will take on a new look this season.

Fortunately for the Scots, returnees and captains are available at every level of the defense.

Head coach Randy Allen said he was pleased with the progress HP’s newcomers made during spring camp, and noted that depth figures to be a strength.

On the line, Charlie Flint, Boone Thompson, and captain Nick van der Westhuizen were varsity contributors a year ago, while returning starter Graham Rodgers is joined at linebacker by Beckett Curtis, captain Lee Wagner, and Dean Williams.

“I think things are looking great,” Wagner said. “I think this is the most stacked deck we’ve had at linebacker in a long time. The depth is really coming together, and I think we’re going to be really strong there.”

Reigning first-team all-district performer and captain Dean Dulin is joined by Sutton Spillman at cornerback, while HP’s starting safeties are expected to be Cotton Patterson and Max Green.

“Coming off of last year, we have a lot of spots to fill from some really good graduating seniors,” Dulin said. “A lot of guys need to step up, and we’ve seen a lot of improvement from guys that can really make an impact on this team and step into those spots. I’m really excited for the season.”
