People Newspapers proudly recognizes students from the schools in our coverage area who have been named semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program — a distinction earned by fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Students qualified by scoring among the top in their state on the PSAT/NMSQT taken as juniors. To become a finalist, the semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application with information about the student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
In the spring, about 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $24 million will be awarded.
