Trailing Frisco Wakeland by six strokes after the first round of the Class 4A Region II Tournament, the Highland Park Lady Scots shaved 20 strokes off of their first-round total to win the tourney by two shots over Wakeland on Tuesday afternoon at Robson Ranch in Denton.
Callie Scheffler led the way for Highland Park by shooting a 153 (77-76). Also for the Lady Scots, Erin Costello shot a 165 (86-79), Maddie Newman shot a 167 (87-80), Maggie Barton shot a 169 (87-82), and Leslie Dickinson shot a 181 (92-89). Competing as an individual medalist, Catherine Moore shot a 168 (88-80).
With the win, HP advances to the Class 4A state tournament May 10-11 in Austin. The Lady Scots finished third at state last year after winning the 4A title in 2008.
