Classical music lovers, Bach will soon be back at Mockingbird Station.
Bach In the Subways, an annual celebration of famed German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, will return to Mockingbird Station at 7 p.m. March 26 with performances by the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. Free sandwiches will also be available from Jimmy’s Food Store.
The event in Dallas is part of the celebration of Bach’s 341st birthday, in which orchestras join thousands of musicians across the globe in the tradition of performing Bach’s works in public spaces like subways, parks, cafes, zoos and more.
“Our mission is to bring Bach to as many people around the world as possible,” said Dale Henderson, the New York City-based cellist who founded Bach in the Subways Day in 2010 and continues to lead the tradition. “My long-term vision for Bach in the Subways,” Henderson says, “is to bring a renaissance of interest and inspiration and excitement about classical music to, ideally, the globe.”
Seating will be limited, so revelers are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
