The world is mourning country music icon Dolly Parton, but Preston Hollow residents may not have known about her time spent in North Dallas.
Parton’s nephew announced the news of her death in a video shared on her social media pages Tuesday.
Bethany Erickson, senior online editor at our sister publication D Magazine and formerly of People Newspapers, wrote last year that Dolly did some recording sessions in 1984 at the late Charley Pride’s recording studio at the corner of Webb Chapel Road and Royal Lane for her Once Upon a Christmas album. Dolly’s sister, Stella, had recorded an album there before Dolly’s time spent there.
Pride, who died in 2020 in Dallas at the age of 86 from complications of COVID-19 and whose sons attended Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, also collaborated with Parton on the duet “God’s Coloring Book” for Pride’s 2006 gospel album.
