In a game that could very well end up deciding the District 10-4A championship, the Highland Park Scots were at their very best.

Quarterback Brooks Burgin threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 89 yards and two more scores to lead the Scots to an impressive 41-26 victory over previously unbeaten Mesquite Poteet on Friday night at Highlander Stadium.

Highland Park (5-1, 3-0) raced out to a 28-0 lead and never looked back. Coming into the game, the Pirates (5-1, 2-1) were averaging 49.4 points per game.

“I’ve seen our guys do this so many times,” Scots head coach Randy Allen said. “They know what’s at stake. They prepare and they play harder and better than you think they can. They’ve improved by leaps and bounds the last five weeks. They’re believing and they’re confident. This was an outstanding football team we were playing. Brooks was phenomenal tonight.”

Highland Park has a short week to get ready for a trip to West Mesquite (3-3, 3-0) next Thursday at Memorial Stadium.
