Highland Park United Methodist Church will hold a prayer vigil from 9 a.m. to noon on July 5 for those affected by the catastrophic flooding along the Guadalupe River.

The vigil in the Cox Chapel will be led by the Rev. Camille May, the Rev. Chelsea Peddecord, and Ashley Hickey, Director of HPUMC Kids.

The church wrote in a July 4 Facebook post:

Many of you have seen the heartbreaking news of the devastating flooding in Hunt, Texas, particularly at Camp Mystic. This tragedy has left us all shaken. The crisis hits close to home, as several attendees of Camp Mystic are part of our HPUMC family, as well as the broader Highland Park community. Our hearts are heavy, and we know many in our community are feeling fear, confusion, and deep sadness.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we know that even in the midst of sorrow and uncertainty, we are not alone. God is near to the brokenhearted. He walks with us, comforts us, and holds our pain with compassion and love.

HPUMC will hold a special prayer vigil tomorrow in Cox Chapel, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon, led by Rev. Camille May, Rev. Chelsea Peddecord, and Ashley Hickey, Director of HPUMC Kids. The vigil will offer sacred moments of reflection through candle lighting, private prayer, music, and communal prayer every half hour.

Please come as you are to this come and go service. In times like these, we lean on one another and the steadfast love of God.
