UP Pavement Preservation Project Wrapping Up

Some University Park blocks have been closed due to the city’s pavement preservation project, but work is scheduled to wrap up and the streets to reopen by 7 p.m. tonight.

The city realizes that street closures can be inconvenient, and appreciates residents’ understanding, said Abby Mancini, University Park’s marketing and multimedia coordinator.

“While we always plan for minimal disruption, we had to accommodate our contractor’s schedule and work within a narrow timeline on this project,” she explained. “The city plans to accomplish pavement preservation efforts over the summer in future years.”

The University Park City Council approved a contract for just over $440,000 with Holbrook Asphalt Company for pavement preservation during its Aug. 19 meeting.

Preservation will extend pavement life, lower repair costs, and be less disruptive to residents than rehabilitation and reconstruction, director of public works and community development Keegan Littrell told the council during that meeting.
