Highland Park Village is conducting an internal review of unauthorized charges allegedly incurred by some personal shopper clients, according to a letter to clients published by our sister publication D Magazine.
The letter, which according to D Magazine was dated May 18, also states that one stylist is no longer employed with Highland Park Village.
It encourages clients to check their credit card statements, and states that the Village is not aware of any specific charges made to the recipient’s account. The letter describes the outreach as “a precautionary step,” and continues that it does not intend to suggest that either the stylist, “or any other individual, engaged in improper conduct involving your information.”
When asked to comment on the allegations of unauthorized charges, a Highland Park Village spokesperson told People Newspapers that “Highland Park Village is conducting our own investigation of the matter referenced, in addition to cooperating with law enforcement. Because of the ongoing nature of the investigation, we will not be able to comment further at this time.”
A Highland Park Department of Public Safety spokesperson told People Newspapers that the department is also looking into the matter and will release more information when it becomes available.
“For any potential criminal activity, HPDPS is currently exploring the appropriate lead investigative agency,” Highland Park DPS Lt. Lance Koppa said.
The stylist named in the letter forwarded to D Magazine is not listed in a search of the Highland Park Village website.
“While we are not aware of any unauthorized charges to your account, the information that is available to us is limited,” the letter, which D Magazine reports was sent to personal-shopper clients from Highland Park Village Senior Managing Director Mark O’Briant, states. “Out of an abundance of caution, we strongly encourage you to review your past credit card statements related to the credit card(s) you used in connection with our personal shopper program. If you do see any incorrect or unfamiliar charges, please immediately let us know.”
