The Highland Park ISD board of trustees Tuesday OK’d a 4% pay raise for teachers and staff for the 2026-2027 school year.

The newly approved teacher pay scale brings the starting salary for teachers in the district to $64,500 with a bachelor’s degree and $67,500 with a masters degree. For the full 2026-2027 HPISD teacher pay scale, click here.

HPISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Shorr Heathcote said some of the drivers of the pay raise include the Stephens Greth Endowment to the tune of $600,000 and an increase in the annual salary commitment from PTAs/PTOs totaling $525,000, among others.

“From 2020 to 2025, Highland Park Independent School District teacher salaries have increased by more than 25 percent across the board,” HPISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Rockwood said in a statement.

HPISD Board President Maryjane Bonfield during the meeting said the district has sought to raise teacher pay in recent years.

“I’m in awe of where we’ve come in the last six years, and obviously it could not be done without our administration and staff being willing to look hard for budget efficiencies and the continuous support of our community, the education foundation, PTA/PTO support, and the willingness to vote for the golden pennies and our bond,” Bonfield said.

In other news:

  • The board of trustees approved adoption of SAVVAS math materials for kindergarten-Algebra 2, BFW Publishers materials for AP Statistics, and Cengage materials for Precalculus.
  • The board of trustees approved a capital improvements request, estimated at $44,259.64, for the conversion of the former swim locker room in the high school basement into a wrestling practice room. The project is expected to be complete by August.
