Back-to-School is a magical time, from starting new classes to seeing old friends. Unfortunately, a new school year usually means new shoes, and parents often struggle with getting what many kids want the most.
Since 1986, The Wilkinson Center’s Carlin Morris Back-to-School Drive has given parents a bridge to provide fresh kicks to their children. This year, the shoe drive is not only celebrating its 40th year, but also aiming to help 400 students walk out confidently with new shoes and socks.
To help out with this year’s Back-to-School Drive, visit the website or sign up to volunteer by July 30. Distribution days are July 31 through August 1.
“For many of the children Wilkinson Center serves, the new pair of shoes they receive at our annual shoe distribution will be the only pair they have for the entire school year. Those, combined with our backpack full of new supplies, ensure they can start the school year on equal footing with their peers,” said Daley Ryan, executive director, Wilkinson Center. “We can think of no better way to commemorate this milestone year than to help 400 kids return to school this fall with the tools they need for a successful year.”
In the four decades since its founding by Wilkinson Center supporter Carlin Morris, the drive has helped more than 40,000 children go the distance with new shoes and socks.
