Highland Park ISD has named the next principals of McCulloch Intermediate School and Highland Park Middle School — one for each campus as opposed to one for both schools.

Katie Schuttler, who previously served as principal of Eubanks Intermediate School and assistant principal at Carroll High School in Carroll ISD, will be the next principal of MIS.

“I am truly honored for the opportunity to lead McCulloch Intermediate School,” Schuttler said. “I look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. Together, we will make the fifth-and sixth-grade experience outstanding for every learner.”

Stefanie Powell will serve as principal of HPMS after two years as an instructional coach and assistant principal in Highland Park ISD.

“Over the past two years, I’ve come to value the high expectations that define Highland Park ISD and the opportunities we have to grow even stronger,” Powell said. “I’m excited to work alongside our students, staff, and families to build on what’s working and thoughtfully improve where we can as we continue moving Highland Park Middle School forward.”

Powell and Schuttler will start their new roles on June 1.

“We gathered significant input from MIS and HPMS teachers and staff, district leaders, and parents throughout this search,” HPISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Rockwood said. “After careful consideration, we are fortunate to have not one, but two exceptional leaders committed to the success of our students. I am confident Katie and Stefanie will meet the unique needs of each campus while working together to ensure an outstanding experience for all students in grades five through eight.”

The announcement of new principals for MIS and HPMS comes after MIS/HPMS principal Amanda Reyes announced that she’s retiring at the end of the school year. Reyes joined the district as the inaugural principal of Boone Elementary in 2019 and became principal of MIS/HPMS in 2024.

Families will be able to meet the incoming principals after school on April 29, from 5 to 6 p.m. on April 30 in the MIS/HPMS foyer, or from 9 to 10 a.m. on May 8.
